/Monastic Cowl

 

2018 Juried Exhibition, Costume Society of America (CSA), Williamsburg, Virginia

 

This design was inspired by the historic monastic cowl from the Carolingian period (c. 750-900).

 

Materials: Bouclé Knitting Yarns, 100% Linen

Technique:

  • Fabric manipulation (pulling & weaving): the weft yarns were removed from the main fabric on the patterned areas and the boucle yarns were handwoven through with uneven running stitches. 

  • Zigzag machine stitching.

  • Draping
